aTavola – A PERFECT PLACE TO EAT ON A LAZY DAY

Restaurant business is a kind of business, which needs constant feedback and reviews, however when you walk-in to a restaurant which states as the prime location for shoppers, then the quality of food has to be superb, and it can be improved only on the basis of continuous review.

Last Sunday, we decided to experience the restaurant aTavola which is located on the ground floor of the Seaview Plaza Tung Chung. The restaurant has been amongst the hottest eating point for people who decide to shop at Citygate Shopping outlet. Though, the name sounds quite Italian, the menu on offer has a wide selection of platters including one from India, Lebanese, Chinese and Japanese too.

As soon as you enter into the restaurant, the ambience of the restaurant takes you all by surprise. The luxurious set-up with open and spacious seating along with a live band and a sideline palatial set-up bar area makes it just a perfect place to unruffle and enjoy even large gatherings and even if it is just a casual dinner. The sitting arrangement and the décor is done the way you expect an A class restaurant with a five-star tag to have. Being a lazy Sunday, we decided to try the restaurant for lunch. Mind you, aTavola is amongst the favorite eating spot of people from Seaview crescent residential community. Here is what I observed, and what more they could deliver.

After being seated, a quite sophisticated and beautiful hostess came to us asking for the order. The maneuver was quite impressive, though to initiate the order we started with some fresh lime soda and by the time the initial order could be brought we decided upon the menu for the lunch.

The menu was properly carved with a series of drinks, followed by some starters, main course dishes and to end it all, the sweets. All of the dishes put on the menu look sumptuous enough to what it can make a perfect day out on a lazy Sunday, but as we cannot order everything, we decided with the following menu:

Starters-
A sultry day called for a light starter and the vegetarian Mezze Platter was the perfect way to begin our meal. It came with an interesting selection of hummous, babaganoush, foul, tabouleh, tut cigars, zaaluk, falafel, mixed olives, carrot and celery sticks. Everything was well made and one got a sense that it was freshly prepared. Tut cigars and falafel were delicious.

Main- Course Meal-
An open wood-fired pizza oven doled out a variety of pizza in 10’ o 12” sizes. The seafood pizza looked extremely appetising, however we wanted to sample the pastas and ordered small portions of Linguine Aglio E Olio, Penne Salmon Pasta and Porcini Risotto Rice. None of the three met our expectations. The flavours were off and it seemed like the ingredients used were not up to the mark although all three pastas were cooked next to perfection, something which quite a few Italian restaurants even fail to achieve.

The highlight of the meal was the sizzling and delicious Chicken Tikka, which was cooked to the perfection without bringing change in flavor. The juicy and fingerlicking Chicken was served with a naan and few quick dips. The food was cooked at the right temperature and can be considered as perfect, if you are someone who can enjoy sumptuous food. You could easily differentiate the taste of varied spices which were subtle yet were leaving their mark. With this much of meal, a couple can be satisfied to the full without leaving space for anything else. But since we were there to  explore, we enjoyed and moved to the next meal.

The Tequila Chicken Burger looked quite unusual and fantastically promising, though as we were already full, we spared some space for the next thing on our platter- Desserts.

Desserts-
We ordered Ravioli Nutella Banana which was nutella and banana filled pizza dough ravioli, something which we had never tried before. The presentation was superb and although the dough was quite chewy, the Nutella and banana combination was hard to beat. We also got the New York cheesecake which tasted like a store bought cheesecake and the taste and flavors were completely off. We loved the warm apple crumble which was served with vanilla ice cream, hands down our favorite dessert at the restaurant. All the dishes on the platter are priced just correctly, so that you don’t burn a hole in the pocket.

Overall, a good place to enjoy with your family when you are not in a mood to cook for yourself or even for the guests.
