WHERE SHOULD I PLACE MY AQUARIUM?

‘QI OR ENERGY IS DISPERSED BY WIND AND GATHERS BY THE BOUNDARIES OF WATER’

Aquariums have always had a close symbolic association with Feng Shui. Water is a Yang or active energy which is constantly moving even when kept absolutely still.

Most Feng Shui practitioners love using Aquariums to activate the QI in the house or place of business. You could do this simply by just putting a pump in a water filled tank, thereby keeping the water active. However, most people enjoy the calming serene effect of seeing fish swim quietly around the tank.

A few things to consider while placing your aquarium are:

  1. The water should always be clean and clear. Dirty, cloudy or foul smelling water will create ‘SHA QI’ and will not be beneficial at all.
  2. The aquarium should be atleast 3’(length) x 3’(depth) in size, allowing a decent volume of water to accumulate and help in Feng Shui activation.
  3. The top surface of the aquarium should not be covered, allowing the QI to collect and harness near the water.
  4. In 2018, the earth dog year, the best area to place your aquarium is in the south west (wealth sector) or south east (career advancement) of your home. These locations will change in 2019.
  5. If you are unable to maintain an aquarium, do not worry, water activation can be done for short periods of time, using a wide bucket of fresh water.

Common myths regarding Aquarium in Feng Shui

  1. Koi Fish/Arowana fish/gold fish are super lucky and will bring an abundance of wealth to the business establishment or home….
Now this is a popular Chinese superstition. If you enjoy buying and maintaining expensive fish then please go ahead but do not expect any windfall gains! Any fish will do. Their job is to activate the water and to prevent mosquitoes from breeding on the water surface.
  2. When a fish dies in the aquarium it basically sacrifices itself to protect the residents, thereby absorbing the bad luck that might have befallen the owner….
This too is an old wives tale. If your fish are dying then please check the water in the tank and ensure the filter is changed.
  3. A painting or a photograph of an aquarium, Koi fish, river or lake will serve the same purpose as fresh H2O….
No! Just as a picture of delicious food cannot fill your stomach-similarly virtual water cannot help in any Feng Shui activations.
  4. If you place aquarium on the right side of your front door entrance, the oldest male member of the house will have an extramarital affair…
Definitely not! This is an absurd myth. Although, water is often used in Feng Shui to
create a ‘Peace Blossom’ or likability effect, there are no facts to sustain the above.
  5. A small mini sized decorative fountain will serve the same purpose of an aquarium….
Not likely, in fact they serve no Feng Shui purpose at all! The water used is too less and dispersed.

In Hong Kong since most people live in high rise buildings, aquariums are an effective way of using Internal Feng Shui. However, it is important to maintain realistic expectations regarding your
wealth luck. You still need to work hard to see a change in your fortunes.
